The Real Dolls are Mannequins

The most realistic mannequins in the world are created at Adel Rootstein. 

Kevin Arpino is doing a great job as the creative director there. 

On top of that, he is a very good friend of mine. 

Thank you Kevin for having "The Miss Cleveland" mannequin as part of your tribute to Halston . . . the clothes are beyond Divine!!

Berlin is not so far away for Fashion.

reflections on the versailles

I felt a little overwhelmed . . .
Then I imagined myself to be a dinosaur as I walked through the Egyptian corridors of the Metropolitan and into the Temple of Dendur. It was quiet because it was a Monday and the museum was officially closed.
As I looked at the artifacts my mind went back to the time when I had gone to Egypt with a friend and visited Tutankhamen's tomb, where I saw the golden sarcophagus still in its place, under the ground in the ancient sand.
Then I flashed on the time I had come to this very museum one afternoon to meet with Diana Vreeland for a shooting. I wore some beautiful clothes designed by Charles James, then Gloria Swanson (my favorite movie star of all-time) arrived to meet Diana Vreeland for lunch. And on that day, Gloria Swanson revealed her beauty secret to me, which is now my secret.

The security guard was walking ahead of me. I wanted to go faster so I left him behind because I was late for an interview that had been set for 11 a.m. I pretty much knew my way to the temple- just follow what looked like onyx sphynxes, plus jackals and ibis-headed hieroglyphics behind glass.
I had been this way before for a few other events, but this time, everything was different. This event was about me and my girlfriends, the models of La Grand Divertissement de Versailles . . . and some of my favorite designers would be here.
Well, I wasn't late for my interview and when I saw the faces of my fellow models from so many years ago, friends whom I just love! Whom I had missed! My heart melted. I'm sorry to say though (silly me), a few faces I couldn't quite place . . . not because I didn't remember them . . . but because they had changed over the years like trees grow.
I wondered how they felt about me? Probably the same, since we are all growing. I just wanted to hug them all. There are no words to describe a time full of feelings of gratitude, but mostly it seemed strange to feel as though we had walked out of a time-past and into this moment, alive and well and grown.
Then, the party started . . .
Life! Oh life! How beautiful and full of surprises! With an official proclamation in hand, I celebrated all of our good fortune. Certainly the front side of the peacock experience for me.
So what's next?
Just keep walking that runway of life!

Last week, my friend Christina invited me to the Guggenheim's 2nd Annual Rob Pruitt Art Awards @ Webster Hall.

James Franco was there and I took a photograph of him . . . but he's everywhere and everyone knows what he looks like so I don't need to post it here. Just love him. He's funny and gorgeous.

Speaking of talent, the following Sunday I got to see some young playwrights at the 10-minute playfest at HB Playwrights Foundation and Theater. 

Especially loved "No Dogs Allowed" written by my friend Craig McNulty and starring Karen Zecowy.

Another Colorful Evening

 

The Asia Society Event @ the Waldorf Grand Ballroom.

The atmosphere was bathed in delicious music from two of the New York Philharmonic's best: Michelle Kim on violin & Vivek Kamath on viola.

I was also thrilled to meet Melissa Lee the host of CNBC'S "Fast Money", 

as well as the mistress of ceremonies for the evening. 

With so many important international CEOs present, who could be a better host?

There were also many traditional Asian clothes worn by the guests, from turbans to sarongs . . . All of this grandeur transported me to another world!

The dinner decor was done by Thuy: beautiful, sparkling branches that reached toward the ceiling. Thuy also designed our beautiful dresses.

By the way, I felt very sexy in my zipped number . . . and during desert, Thuy gave all her girlfriend guests beautiful cuff bracelets! So nice to be cuffed by Thuy! 

Oh, and yes, black and white goes perfectly with a colorful evening clutch!!

Go East!

Tonight I'm attending the Asia Society Awards Dinner
@ The Waldorf=Astoria. 

This is my 2nd event in their historic grand ballroom in a week! 

(And I've yet to have a waldorf salad!)

I'm very excited to celebrate world and business leaders from Asia and New York, but thrilled to hear the New York Philharmonic play their hearts out after they receive the Cultural Ambassador Award.
Can you say, "HI, Drama!"

The dress code reads: "Asian National Dress or Black Tie" . . .
I'm honored to have been asked to carry a clutch designed by Thuy, who also designed the decor for tonight's festivities.
It's not often one must match a gown to an accessory, and since it's all about color, I'm torn between two dresses: a Thuy gown or a Stephen Burrows. With choices like these, how can I go wrong?
